On this #GivingTuesday, we are reminded that no matter what season, our local communities provide a backbone of strength and mutual aid support amidst crises like COVID-19 and systemic racism.
While the holidays mark a time shared with family and giving gifts, we know that it is also a time to show our solidarity and resistance so that our communities are able to determine our health, lives and future.
Corporations that have hoarded immense wealth at the expense of funding our local communities and schools, are making exponential gains and profits while Black, Indigenous, and communities of color are disproportionately impacted because this pandemic has exacerbated how legacies of racist policies disrupt our everyday lives. Last month, we showed our power with our vote. On #GivingTuesday, flex your power with how you spend money this holiday season. Instead of contributing to corporate wealth, consider making the money move to social justice organizations like KGA, and/or small businesses that serve our local communities- instead of corporations that put profit over people!
Additionally, with the surge of COVID-19 cases, we remind you all to stay safe by adhering to advisories to slow the spread of COVID-19. Even though social distancing is an unconventional way to spend our holidays, doing so ensures that we keep our community and loved ones healthy and safe!
