This Lunar New Year we're reminded of the many ways our communities are stronger when we are in alignment and connected with each other, especially in these times when we're apart. This new year of the metal ox is symbolic of our collective responsibility to work together and bend the long moral arc towards justice. The intense rise of anti-Asian racism and violence along with the lack of media coverage is the direct consequence of white supremacy fueling hate, division and fear. In our programs, the saying kNOw History, kNOw Self, empowers our young people to understand their cultural heritage and how institutionalized oppressions created the conditions they see in their everyday lives. When they understand that their history, struggles and liberation are linked with Black, Indigenous and communities of color they are empowered and ready to make systemic change that improves the lives of all. Just like the ox is vital in tilling the soil for a bountiful harvest, so too is our collective work in building cross-racial solidarity, community care, and co-governance. When we work together to dismantle white supremacy, anti-blackness and systemic oppression we build a reality where our communities are strong, safe, healthy and whole. We wish you blessings of justice, love and power! May our collective work ahead honor our ancestors and empower present and future generations! |
